Waterfront
There will be a small enclosed public space overlooking the water to Silo D, shown on the map up top. Here there will be seating overlooking the water to provide spaces for people to come and stay. Here will also have cafe tables in the public realm but also provide play equipment such as table tennis to provide the youths with activities to stay occupied. It will also overlook the water activities zone so parents can relax while they watch their children if they do not wish to participate.
Public Plaza
There will be a public plaza close to the waterfront, shown on the map above. The plaza will be partially enclosed by mixed-use buildings. The ground floor of the buildings will be predominantly occupied by cafe, restaurants and bars. There will be seating in the public realm to ensure vitality and create a lively, friendly atmosphere. The upper floors of the buildings with house commercial space and provide natural surveillance on to the plaza. Features such as a water fountain will be added to create sensory richness as well as vegetation.
The public realm is a very important element in creating vitality in the area. We want to provide the community with the highest quality public realm providing richness through elements such as vegetation and water features. As we are a community-led development group we want to provide a much space as possible to encourage social interaction to improve the mental health of the community and provide leisure opportunities in the public realm to encourage physical activity. There will be spaces available for the community to hold events which will also be welcoming to neighbouring communities creating cohesion between the new and existing communities.
Public Realm
We aim to create a bright and lively public realm that offers people a place to stay and participate in activities to create more vitality in the area. A way which we will be achieving this is to incorporate leisure facilities such as a skate park in the public realm to make up for the lack of sports facilities readily available in the area. As well as the provision of activities such as table tennis run and maintained by the community land trust.
