Community Land Trust

The green open space in front of Silo D is designated land for the community land trust. They will own approximately 9000 sqm of space where they will be able to provide the community with the activities they want. This will also reach out to multiple groups of people creating more community involvement and making this regeneration truely community-led. Here, if they chose, they can hold events such as a market or fates to appeal to the families of the community. They could also have a community garden for all generations to get involved and learn new skills through the environment. For more information on the community land trust click the button below.

Green Space

Open space is vital to any development of this size to provide the communities with a space to spend quality leisure time with their friends and families whilst enjoying the fresh air. From research earlier in the project we noticed there was a lack of these spaces in the surrounding area so in our development we will also be providing the existing communities with the opportunity to use it. The big open space in front of Silo D will be owned by the community land trust for them to provide the community with the activities they want (see below for more detail). All residents will be provided will either a private shared communal garden or be in proximity to green open space. In our research of previous plans, we found access to green open space a key theme in the communities desires.

Road Layout

The road layout is designed to create the best possible experience for all its users. The road and path will be at an equal level creating equality between pedestrians and vehicles and encouraging safer driving in the area. This will also create more opportunities for children to play safely in the road which is often overlooked open space. An organisation called London play helps communities gain funding tool to get children playing on the streets, this is something we hope to utilise on our site (for more information see case studies to the right). There will be cycle paths along all roads on the site and bike sheds will be provided to encourage sustainable travel in the community. The street view is designed to be aesthetically pleasing using high quality patterned paving adding richness to the street on top of the vegetation that also encourages biodiversity in the area contributing to sustainability.
